The Multi-Line Journal feature in ZoneReconcile allows you to split a single bank statement line item across multiple General Ledger accounts, generating one consolidated Journal Entry rather than separate individual postings. Use this feature to efficiently allocate complex transactions without leaving ZoneReconcile.

Overview
When reconciling bank statements, some transactions need to be distributed across more than one GL account. The Multi-Line Journal option lets you split a single statement line into multiple journal postings, all compiled into one Journal Entry in NetSuite upon saving.
Creating a multi-line journal posting
Follow the steps below to create a Multi-Line Journal posting from a bank statement line.
Step 1: Open the statement
Import a new bank statement or open an existing statement in edit mode.
Step 2: Open the Multi-Line Journal pop-up
Locate the Alt Match Type column on the bank statement line. Select the field to open the Pick-list and choose Multi-Line Journal.
Step 3: Enter journal data
In the pop-up that opens, enter the split allocation across as many lines as needed. For each line, complete the following fields:
- Amount — the amount to post to this account
- Account — the GL account to post to
- Department — select if applicable
- Class — select if applicable
- Location — select if applicable
- Tax Code — select if applicable
Important: The total of all split lines must equal the statement line amount shown in the Amount On Bank Statement Transaction field. The pop-up displays a running total in the Total Amount Split field and will not allow submission until the two values match.
Step 4: Submit the allocation
When all lines are complete and the totals match, select the Submit button to save the allocation.
Outcome
After saving the statement, the Payment Number column displays 2 or more journal entries as entered in the pop-up. Each journal is posted to the GL account specified in the allocation.
Technical and functional limitations
Before using Multi-Line Journals, review the following limitations to ensure this feature is appropriate for your use case.
No automated matching rules
Multi-line allocations require complete manual input for each transaction. The feature does not support Custom Matching Rules (CMR) to automatically divide statement lines based on description triggers or to recall historical splits for recurring transactions.
Journal entries only
This feature is strictly designed to create journal entries. It cannot be used to allocate customer payments across multiple specific invoices or across separate legal entities.
GL account pick-list sort order
The Account Pick-list within the pop-up is not sorted alphanumerically by account number, which may slow the process of locating a specific account.
💡 Tip: Type the first few characters of the account name or number directly into the Account field to filter the list and locate accounts faster.
Permission requirements
Important: Access to the Multi-Line Journal suitelet requires the Accounting Preferences permission. Users who attempt to open the pop-up without this permission will receive a Permission Violation error. Contact your NetSuite Administrator to request the required role permission.
Header-level segmentation overrides
Important: In versions prior to 5.19.2, line-level segmentations (such as Class, Department, or Location) assigned within the pop-up were at risk of being overwritten by the bank statement transaction's header-level segmentation upon saving. This behavior is resolved in version 5.19.2 and later. Upgrade to version 5.19.2 or later to ensure line-level segmentation values are preserved.
